This delightful Christmas card is a story of friendship through adversity.
Daralyn Laban’s life changed dramatically in 2025 when her husband Gary suffered a stroke. Further tests revealed Gary had pancreatic cancer. In July this terrible disease took his life.
“It was all so quick and devastating” reflects Daralyn. “So much was on the calendar: weddings, holidays, outings all gone in a heartbeat. Our whole community was in disbelief, but I received so much support from all our amazing friends and neighbours.”
One of those neighbours was Rosemary. She created a painting of the church where they said goodbye to Gary, making it into a Christmas card. “The whole community of Capel St Mary were very supportive, and we sold cards in the church, garden centre, community centre and even at dog training classes.”
Rosemary and Daralyn have this year offered the original design to Pancreatic Cancer UK to see if it could be used to raise further funds by sharing their story and the Christmas card.
Daralyn says, “I feel this card demonstrates a strong community spirit and a determined commitment to raise awareness and support for more research into this silent killer.”
Rosemary says “I have been painting and drawing as long as I can remember, winning my first competition aged 6. After leaving school, I studied graphic design at Art school. Wherever I go I feel inspired to sketch or paint.”
